GasGauge exploit released jailbreak

Luca Todesco has teased several iOS 9 jailbreaks in the last few months. These have included jailbreaks for iOS 9.2.1, 9.3.2 and even 9.3.3 beta. There was a lot of excitement in the community as they now knew it was possible to jailbreak those software versions, giving hope for future jailbreaks. However Luca has always said he would never release his exploits to the public.

Today that has changed. He stated on his twitter (@qwertyoruiopz) that “iOS 10 went hard on security” and that “Basically all the techniques I relied on are broken. Need to start from scratch”. What this essentially means is that iOS 10 patches the exploits used to achieve the jailbreaks Luca previously teased. This means we will probably have to wait a lot longer for an iOS 10 jailbreak.

Luca has released the “GasGauge race condition yielding double free” exploit code he used to achieve these jailbreaks to the public on Ghostbin. This might not be very useful to the average user, but someone with the right technical knowhow could develop this into a fully functioning jailbreak.

This new release gives hope that jailbreak teams such as Pangu and Taig might use the exploit to create a user friendly jailbreak tool for all in the near future. As exciting as this idea may be, it is in no way confirmed. Try not to get too excited just incase nothing comes from this.
