How to Jailbreak iOS 11.0 – 11.1.2 Using LiberiOS on iPhone, iPod touch or iPad

3

It has finally arrived. The jailbreak for iOS 11.0 to 11.1.2 is available to the public at last. After the wait since the previous jailbreak for iOS 10.2, lots of people will be relieved to finally be able to jailbreak their updated iOS devices. There is one small catch to this jailbreak, however. That is that it doesn’t currently come with Cydia, as it has not yet been updated for iOS 11. At the moment, the jailbreak will only have SSH and root access to the device, and should therefore only be used by developers for now. Cydia should be added to this within a few days (hopefully). This is also a semi-tethered jailbreak, meaning whenever you reboot your device you will need to follow steps 9 and 10 of the below guide to restore all jailbreak features. This is very easy though so isn’t a big problem.

This new jailbreak should work with all 64-bit iOS devices running iOS 11.0 to 11.1.2 (unfortunately not 11.2 or above). The jailbreak tool, called LiberiOS, can be downloaded from newosxbook.com and is compatible with iOS 11.0 to 11.1.2 on all devices.

Requirements & Notes:

  • This is compatible with iOS 11.0 – 11.1.2 on all 64-bit devices.
  • This is a semi-tethered jailbreak (read steps 9 and 10)
  • This currently works with the following devices:
    – iPhone X
    – iPhone 8/8 Plus
    – iPhone 7/7 Plus
    – iPhone 6s/6s Plus
    – iPhone 6/6 Plus
    – iPhone 5s
    – iPhone SE
    – iPad Air 1
    – iPad Air 2
    – iPad Mini 2/3/4
    – iPad Pro 1st and 2nd Generation
  • This works on macOS, Windows, and Linux
  • You make sure to backup all your data to iTunes or iCloud before attempting this jailbreak
  • You should turn off Find my iPhone, and your passcode/Touch ID lock before trying to jailbreak
  • If you do not have a paid Apple developer account, the LiberiOS app will start to crash one week after being installed. This is because the certificate for it will have expired. To fix this, all you need to do is reinstall the LiberiOS app using the instructions below.

Written Guide:

  1. Download the LiberiOS jailbreak app from the link above and save it somewhere. Then download the latest version of Cydia Impactor (a program made by saurik) for your operating system from the links above. Version 0.9.35 minimum is required. Extract it and open the ‘Impactor’ file.
  2. Once it opens, make sure your iOS device is plugged into your computer, and that your passcode, Touch ID lock and Find my iPhone is turned off during the jailbreak process. Select your device in the drop-down menu.
  3. Find the LiberiOS app IPA file you downloaded earlier and drag it into the Cydia Impactor tool. If a warning appears, click ‘OK’.
  4. You will be asked to enter your Apple ID. This is used only to create a certificate for the LiberiOS app to be installed and will not be visible to anything other than Apple’s servers.
  5. Once you have entered your Apple ID and password, click ‘OK’. The LiberiOS app should now be installed on your device.
  6. Once the LiberiOS app is installed, open Settings and navigate to General>Profiles & Device Management and find the LiberiOS app profile (should be your Apple ID). Open it and click ‘Trust’ twice.
  7. Open the LiberiOS app. You should see a blue ‘Do it’ button. Tap on this button and the jailbreak should begin. The LiberiOS app should now be jailbreaking your device. Do NOT do anything else with the device while this is happening.
  8. Once the app says it is done, you should have SSH and root access to the device (Cydia will be added at a later date).
  9. As this is a Semi-Tethered jailbreak, after you reboot your device all jailbreak features will be disabled. To fix this all you need to do is open the LiberiOS app, tap the ‘Do it’ button, and wait a few seconds for the app to say it is done (do not press anything on the device in this time)
  10. Once your device resprings, your jailbreak functionality will be restored!
  11. If you do not have a paid Apple developer account, the LiberiOS app may start to crash one week after being installed. This is because the certificate for it will have expired. To fix this, all you need to do is reinstall the LiberiOS app using the instructions you just followed.
